Having completed the first 9 holes in 2009, construction is well under way on the remaining 9 holes at The Ridge Golf Course in Barden Ridge, NSW, for Sutherland Shire Council.

Turnpoint constructed the first 9 holes in 2009 as part of a 10-year development plan on what was an old tip site covering 104 hectares and includes a driving range, 6 playing fields, 12 netball courts and an athletics track. Turnpoint has been maintaining the first 9 holes since completion and will assume responsibility for maintenance of the full 18 holes.

Course superintendent, Ben Grylewicz, is heading the construction team which includes experienced shapers Lindsay Richter, Robin Gibson, Glen Peck and Kevin Nolan.

“I’m really happy with the progress we have made to date and how the team is performing,” he said. “We have already brought in around 10,000m3 of imported fill to put the shape in and by the time we’re finished we will have used 23,000m3,” he said.

“We are going to solid turf 7.5 hectares of tees, fairways and green surrounds and will seed the greens with G2 bent grass.”

Construction is scheduled for completion in March, 2012.

Turnpoint has been given planning approval by King Island Council to develop an 18-hole golf course and associated buildings at Cape Wickham, King Island. This follows the lodgement receiving Crown consent from the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment.

The submission and subsequent approval follow a recent public meeting attended by more than 100 people, where plans were outlined for the proposed links course on a 84 hectare site in the coastal hills near the historic Cape Wickham lighthouse. Turnpoint director, Andrew Purchase, who in a 25-year career has built courses around the world and is leading the development, said: “Our vision is for the Cape Wickham Golf Course to be recognised internationally alongside the likes of Turnberry in Scotland”.

Brian Clapp has been appointed Maintenance Manager of Turnpoint’s Landscape Division.

A qualified greenkeeper with an impressive background in golf course maintenance in Australia, New Zealand and the UK, Brian joined. Turnpoint in October, 2010, to manage our new DryJect business. He has applied himself with enthusiasm and professionalism to this key area, with DryJect fast becoming the choice turf aeration method for a number of Australia’s leading
golf courses and premier sports stadiums.

A need to install an experienced manager into our burgeoning landscape maintenance business sees Brian assume overall responsibility for a number of commercial and residential contracts. Brian will continue to manage DryJect as part of his maintenance activities.

Turnpoint has been awarded the residential landscape maintenance contract at Mirvac’s Waverley Park development in Mulgrave,
Victoria. Led by Maintenance Manager, Brian Clapp, our team has responsibility for maintaining all streetscape, open space park and public domain areas within the 80-hectare site.

Originally developed in 1970 by the Victorian Football League (now AFL) as one of Australia’s major sporting stadiums, with a 72,000 seat capacity, the site was purchased in 2001 by Mirvac and now plays host to Mirvac Victoria’s largest residential development which when completed will be home to 3,500 people.

The ground itself and a majority of the Sir Kenneth Luke Stand have been retained as the centrepiece of the development and are now the training and administrative base of the Hawthorn Football Club.

Turnpoint has purchased a spectacular 208 acre parcel of land on King Island and is already well into planning the construction of what has the potential to be one of the great links courses in the world.

Managing Director, Andrew Purchase, had been studying King Island and the Cape Wickham area for some time. And when the land came on the market saw it as the ideal opportunity to not just create another construction and maintenance project, but also what he sees as the natural progression of the company into ownership and management.

Detailed survey work is about to commence, with a view to having the course completed and ready for play in early 2012.

Since Turnpoint imported a fleet of DryJect machines from the US, under exclusive licence to operate in Australia and New Zealand, this revolutionary aeration technology is being incorporated into the maintenance programs of a growing number of golf courses, sports fields, horse racecourses and lawn bowls greens. Go to our Services page to find out how turf aeration has never been easier with DryJect.
